Things to Consider when Shopping for a Vehicle

Buying a Car There’s a ton of information out there about how best to shop for a car. Commercials tell us that we need to wait for a clearance sales event, or bargain with an iron fist. Moreover, everyone has an opinion about the best way to buy a car! All of that can be overwhelming: all you really want is a car that you paid a fair price for that will last many years and keep you and your family safe while you drive. Luckily, 443 Auto Sales is here to tell you what really matters when you’re shopping for a new car.

Consumer Reports suggests starting the process by deciding what you’re looking for. If you show up to a sales lot with no idea what kind of car you want, you’ll probably be in for a long, frustrating shopping process. Come prepared: know whether you’re looking for a sporty car, a minivan for the family, a pick up truck or something else.

Before you arrive at the dealership, do some research on the different makes and models of the type of car you’re looking for. Read some customer reviews to help you decide what model you might want, and ask the dealer about any issues that repeatedly came up in your online search.

Once you decide on a type of car, decide whether you want to purchase a used or new car. New cars will be more expensive with little benefit, so we suggest looking for a certified pre-owned vehicle (or a CPO), like the ones we sell here at 443 Auto Sales. You may be offered an extended warranty on a CPO, in addition to low interest financing, and free or discounted maintenance.

Don’t forget to ask about the car’s gas mileage so you can get an idea of how much you’ll be spending on fuel.

Once all your questions have been answered, pay specific attention to a few things during the test drive. Make sure you’re comfortable with the acceleration and brakes, the steering and handling, and visibility. If you feel uncomfortable as you drive, or notice that your view isn’t as clear as it is with other models, try a different car.

The most important advice we can give you is to be open and honest about what you’re looking for with your dealer. If, after lots of research and test drives, you’re still not sure what kind of car you want or need, an expert dealer may be able to steer you in the right direction.
